Solstice at Tikal, Guatemala
Here is a picture journal of my afternoon/evening at Tikal. It was quite the enchanted evening with the setting of Tikal in Guatemala’s lowland jungle and Kannal playing a solstice concert.
Here is a nice picture of one of the pyramids on the way in.
There are many nice little courtyards like this in the park.
A little while before sunset, the band Kannal prepares for their concert.
While the band prepares and some people mill below, I go up the pyramid.
Its a sweet view from the top.
Tzol is up on the pyramid documenting too.
Quite a few folks are chilling on top of the pyramid, many brought instruments and we got an improv sunset jam/dance going.
After sunset we wrap up our jam and head down for the concert.
Gilly drummin, lookin quite irie.
The setting was quite cool with just fire for light, musica organica and the right kind of people for a night out on solstice.

Hey. Your pictures are incredible. It really looks like you had an amazing time. I’m really jealous. I just saw this video on Guatemala you should check out. Once you get passed the intro, it’s really interesting and the scenery is beautiful!
